Pregnancy Stages: Week 06

Your baby:

During this week, your baby’s nose, mouth, and ears are beginning to take shape. Dark spots in the head side are also starting to form developing your baby's eyes and nostrils. Buds that will later become arms and legs begin to show. His heart, no bigger than a poppy seed, is beating about 100 to 160 beats a minute. His intestines are developing, and the neural tube, which connects the brain to the spinal cord, closes at this time. His pituitary gland is forming, as are the rest of his brain, muscles, and bones. Right now, your baby is a quarter of an inch long.

Your body:

Nobody can tell that you are pregnant from looking at you, but there’s a lot happening inside you. The early symptoms from bloating, cravings, constant fatigue and frequent urination make you sure of your pregnancy.

Your first prenatal visit occurs. A blood test and urine test would be prescribed by your doctor. Your doctor will prescribe multivitamins and folic acid if you haven’t started taking them yet. Aside from giving up cigarettes, alcohol or any type of drugs, you should start good habits to eliminate any infection. Wash vegetables very well, do not eat any unpasteurized dairy products. Stay away from fish and raw meat. If you have pets at home, let your partner clean them. Keep off from visiting sick people.
